Red Fox Gallery
I absolutely adore red foxes. They may be relatively common, being found on all the continents bar Antarctica and South America, but in the UK they are difficult to observe outside of some cities where they have adapted to live alongside people. Rural foxes are shy due to the relentless persecution they have suffered at the hands of people who enjoy killing for fun.
If you take the time to observe these beautiful animals and learn to recognise individuals, you’ll be richly rewarded by the complex social behaviour they display. Every year that I’ve followed a fox family, they’ve revealed new behaviour that is rarely documented in textbooks.
They are smart, inquisitive, dutiful, social, and above all else, resilient animals. Did I say they are beautiful? The gallery below contains images captured over the last 10 years, and shows many of my favourite individuals whose trials, hardships and successes I’ve witnessed over several seasons. I hope you enjoy them.
